Grant Award From The John Haswell Memorial Trust

Grant Support For Sunniside & District Local History Society

On behalf of the Officials and Members of the Society, Chairman Colin Douglas announced this week that a grant of £384 had been received from ‘The John Haswell Memorial Trust’.

The money is for the purchase of approved items of hi-tech equipment, to be used initially in the making of a DVD about the waggonways from the River Tyne to Pontop Pike beginning at the Tanfield waggonway, which dated back five centuries for the transportation of coal.

The Society is extremely grateful to the Memorial Trust which is a part of Gateshead Voluntary Organisations Council (GVOC) and supported by the Metrocentre. Their activities are proving to be very popular with the local community.

Lottery Grant From Awards For All

We have received a very generous grant from the Lottery Awards for All. This takes us to almost £20,000 in grants over the past few years. We are very grateful indeed for the support we have received from the Lottery fund, it has enabled us to keep up to date with our digital and computerised equipment. Our membership averages over 90 every month of the year, we also use our equipment to educate & entertain outside of our Society.
